What about that night? There was nothing said.
Two friends parallel on a bed.
You had turned away, out of breath for no discernible reason.
And by the lamplight I watched the rise and fall of your chest.
I suggested another drink, half in jest.
But soon it was sleep that got the best of us,
once your breathing calmed, we just fell asleep fully dressed.
That was probably for the best.
Even though for so long we were ships passing in the night,
I wanted you to know I think about that night,
Fondly, And often.
You my friend
are beset
on all sides by fools
who don't know your worth,
You're like a stolen silver spoon used to jam the door.
And if it gets a bit much for you
just take a brief look behind you,
a glance in your wing mirrors will do.
And glimpse in your wake
the trails of storms you've weathered
and the husks of those who've
left you unsupported.
Flailing, tarred and feathered.
And your spackled past will only serve to enrich your gilded future.
They stood waiting for him to arrive,
both nervous but the garden finally alive.
Countenance weighed down by fear and regret,
his apprehensive, hers upset.
His name called, not with summoning intention,
Or righteous invocation.
But as a blasphemous ecstatic expression.
This would become the convention.
It's bound to happen like this!
Curiosity killed the catatonia of ignorant platonic bliss.
If you feel like it's a guilt you should confess,
this new knowledge in your chest.
Or if you feel like it's a test you didn't pass,
it's the answer to a question they have no right to ask.

It cuts through to the feels in such a unique way, a truly Australian brand of emo, twinkly goodness. Tom Johnston
